Just a post to cover the costumes for Dragon*Con this year.

A photo of a friend wearing the improved Doc Worth jacket. Instead of faux fur like I had last year, I took a sheep skin throw from Ikea and used it. It's incredibly fluffy, but glorious!

Me in my Princess Bubblegum costume, with the friend from the previous picture as Marceline, and an AMAZING LSP cosplayer who found us. Over all, I'm quite pleased with the PB dress, and it was very comfortable. The crown gave me a lot of trouble, and I'll probably find a way to make it thinner and lighter weight for next year. I believe I'll also be making a Peppermint Butler purse.

Close up of the shoes I made to match the PB dress. Just a pair of old flats with scraps from the dress hot glued on top. I burned my finger making these the day before the con. It hurt. BADLY.

And finally, two shots of the costume I made of Miss Raney's character. I don't know why I didn't take my badge off for these. XD

WOW. OK. So it's been a long time since I've updated this thing. I'm so sorry! I've been doing lots of crafting lately, and, of course, I've got very little photos to show for it. I'm sorta bad at this thing, I know. lol. I do, however, have some pictures of my latest project that I'm still working on, and I'll throw some of those WIP shots up now. Some explanation:

After first seeing the work of creturfetur on dA some time ago, I've been wanting to experiment with needle felting. After Dragon*Con in September, I decided that needle felting would be my fall project. After a test run by felting a quick Gunter the penguin from Adventure Time, I waited until some felting books I'd had transferred to my library to arrive, glanced over them, and promptly ignored them. XD I then plunged myself into creating the bat form of a character of mine. It's been a lot of fun, and I really loved making his curls. REALLY. I keep adding more and more because they're just too darn cute. There's still quite a bit left to do with him. He needs his other hind leg, and I have to sculpt some back feet and some thumbs for his forearms and his eyes (the one in the pics is just a straight pin I've used as a substitute) and possibly a nose. Then there's general finishing touches to consider. But he's nearly there!

OH HEY! It's THIS thing! Forgot I had this thing. Well, it's summer time, and as soon as I get some more monies, it means it's CRAFTING TIME! Mostly, I'm planning for new cosplays for D*con, but I'm sure there will be some random projects in between. Currently I've got two new costumes lined up:

~Princess Bubblegum of Adventure Time

~And that super secret costume that I may have mentioned that you don't get a photo of. :P

Other potential projects involve another Jake the Dog plush and I'll probably work on my ongoing Conbat project.

Not much else to say other than it really sucks when you step on a picture frame you just bought. Don't put frames on the floor, kids.

All I need to do is write two essays, turn them in tomorrow with my portfolio and then I'm out! My plans for this break are simple: PREP FOR MOMOCON! Mostly this means finally sewing that darn shark hoodie! This time, I intend to try to show a step by step photo of putting it together, but I make no promises, as I get really into working and completely forget about photos. I've also got to make some arm spats for our Ples, which will be lots of fun, as he's in Indiana and I don't have his arms for fitting, just measurements. JOY. Just a heads up on what's coming soon. Stay tuned!

So, I ordered my the hoodie to convert into my Veser costume about a week or so ago. Two days ago, it finally shipped. Yesterday, I got home and POOF! There it was! I was rather surprised, considering it was sent USPS. And with my history with USPS, I expected it to arrive in two months, and not two days. SO SURPRISED!

On to the important info!

I think the color is PERFECT. It's a Gildan hoodie, and it's their shade called "indigo" which is no where near what I think of when I hear indigo, but whatever. It's a nice, medium greyish blue. The only downside? Zipper not included. Gnarr! I'm already planning to get to work on it, though. I went out today and bought the zipper, thread, and some fabric paint for the gills on the side. I decided this time around, instead of using the Tulip brand paint, I'd see how the inks for screen printers decide to treat me. I have no idea how well the paint's going to work being applied with a sponge brush...but we'll see!

I'm still working on a way to get my Dental Distortions teeth to cooperate with my mouth. I think it's my mouth that's stupid and not the teeth, though. SIGH. I SHALL CONQUER THEM, THOUGH!!

The hoodie's in the wash now, and I may get to work on painting it while I have the time this weekend. I've gotta get Chekov's The Cherry Orchard read by Tuesday, and I've got a recording from Librivox with my name on it! Multitasking, ahoy!

Finally completed my plushie Christmas present a couple of weeks ago, and since I've finally gifted it to its rightful owner, I can now post photos! YAY!

Her body is suedecloth, hair is felt, face acrylic, and her hoodie is actually remnants of my Adelaide hoodie, with some painted details. She was made using a Deviant Art tutorial and pattern

The box was one of those pressed paper affairs from the craft store, découpaged with bat scrapbook paper inside and painted with acrylics. The design was taken from the "Color Me Surprised" page, and all done by hand.

I'd sewn Adelaide's body months ago, and finally over the Christmas break, made myself finish it up. She was finished while I watched tons of Doc Martin back to back, and then the box was painted while marathoning Veronica Mars. Yes, that is vital information. I'm about 90% satisfied with it, and I prefer looking at it in person than in the photo. Whatever.

Title is taken from Anberlin's song "Adelaide," and our favorite sassy bat is from Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name!

A couple of close ups:

And one more shot for the fun of it:

Well, the messenger bag got done faster than I thought it would; but that's good, right? This one was super simple, and I used the delightful tutorial over at mmmcrafts.
I'm not sure why I chose a shirt/tie design, I guess I wanted an interesting way to display the pins, and, of course, my brain was like, "LAPELS!" So...yeah. We have this now.

Fabrics used for the main body of the bag was a black twill and a plaid suiting. I did use interfacing on the strap and body. The shirt design was just broadcloth, the tie was some silky black stuff I've had for a while, and some suede cloth for the "skin."

Everything went pretty well, right up until the end, when I was working on removing my HINABN pins from the necklace I'd hot glued them on. Lamont was being stubborn and wouldn't come off, so I got my X-acto knife to cut him out and learned a valuable lesson. You know how they say to cut away from you? Yeah...you should cut away from you. I was trying to slice upwards through the glue, and it gave suddenly cutting upwards through my left index finger. FUN STUFF. Great way to end 2010, too.
